Local Action Challenge

I was recently invited to participate in the Local Action Challenge that is going on in cities across the nation. In support of the upcoming climate treaty in Copenhagen [dubbed Hopenhagen] the challenge is to inspire local, on-the-ground action in support of going green. By snapping pictures of simple things (that you're probably already doing) and uploading them to your city's site you not only become eligible to win prizes, but you're joining with your community to make a statement. It took us less than 10 minutes to take these pictures of things we do around our house to be green: use CFL light bulbs, unplug electronics when not in use, recycle and swap to-go cups for a mug. I'd like to invite you to join in too. Visit the Local Action Challenge HERE, click on your city and get snapping. Please be sure to get in touch if you participate, I'd love to feature readers who take part!
Have a wonderful weekend. Xx

Lonny Magazine

Tomorrow is the exciting launch of Lonny Magazine, an online publication that will appeal to design aficionados and eco-minded style spotters alike. The brainchild of two tastemakers, Michelle Adams and her partner Patrick Cline, Lonny is sure to become a go-to site for inspiration. Michelle Adams has long captured my attention as the creator of an eco-friendly textile and bedding company called Rubie Green. Garnering her design chops as a former Domino magazine editor, her newest project will continue to focus on showcasing accessible design with flair. The online format appeals to my eco-sensibility for saving trees, but also the instant gratification of clickable links on each live page. The inaugural issue will feature the likes of former Domino greats, Deborah Needleman and Kate Townsend Simpson, in addition to featuring entertaining tips from one of my favorite upcycling pros, Eddie Ross. If the previews of Patrick Clines photography are an indication of what is in store, Lonny will capture an in-depth peak into enviably stylish lifestyles. Can’t wait!

Fun Friday!

Thank you to the Chic Coles for giving me the Honest Scrap Blog Award!

Here are the rules I must follow, upon receiving this award:

  • Say thanks and give a link to the presenter of the award.
  • Share "10 Honest Things" about myself.
  • Present this award to 7 others whose blogs I find brilliant in content and/or design, or those who have encouraged me.
  • Tell those 7 people they've been awarded HONEST SCRAP and inform them of these guidelines in receiving.

In the spirit of fun Fridays, here are some honest things about me:
1) I am a lefty—so is my Mom, sister and husband. Look out when eating dinner with us if you are right handed!
2) Learning to ski is at the top of my list, but as we discovered last year, I’m terrified of ski lifts….
3) I studied abroad in Florence, Italy as an undergrad and am still under the spell of La Dolce Vita. (My parents are in Italy right now and I’m so jealous!) If I could get away with riding a vespa or driving a jolly fiat in Charlotte I would, until then I watch Everyday Italian and drink prosecco as much as possible.
4) My sister is my hero. 5) Besides yoga, Zumba is becoming one of my favorite activities!
6) Some of my happiest memories are SCUBA diving. (Also some of my scariest)
7) I fell in love with a Great Dane puppy last week and can’t stop thinking about her.
8) Every time I go shopping, I end up with a white tee-shirt.
9) I LOVE coconut desserts: coconut cake, almond joy, coconut macaroons are the best
10) There are plenty of times that I get to the store and realize that I forgot my reusable bags, but I like to think that working to take small green steps each week all add up

I would like to present the Honest Scrap Award to anyone who would like to play along! Thanks again, Chic Coles, have a wonderful weekend!!

If it makes you happy....

My good friend, Meg, over at Late Check-In, tagged me in a game that asks bloggers to share 6 uninteresting things that make them happy. My husband jokes that this is my favorite game to play, so I couldn't resist the post today!
Since moving back to the states, there are many uninteresting/normal things that send me over the moon, such as:
1) All-American food items such as Cheerios, Coffee-Mate (remember) and above all... ice cream options. What is summer with out DQ and Cold Stone?
2) Driving on the Right Side of the road... not only does it make me more comfortable, it makes me less hazardous. All-in-all a good thing!
3) Listening to country music on the radio, while doing item #2. Nothing makes me feel more nostalgic about America than riding with the windows down and country music playing. The other day I heard this song for the first time and LOVE it!
4) The 18 hour time change that complicated phone conversations with loved ones, is an issue no longer. Although it was fun to "call from the future" (NZ was a day ahead), I much prefer the ease of picking up the phone at leisure to get a familiar voice on the other end (no delay or static-alleluia!)
5) Diane Sawyer, she makes me happy. I missed waking up to the familiar Good Morning America team while abroad. And since coming home, I've gladly welcomed them back into my morning routine. I believe Diane is one of the most beautiful and classy ladies on TV today!
6) Online shopping makes me happy. Jcrew's lack of international shipping was a minor pitfall of our NZ address; I now relish the availability to purchase items online.
I'd like to tag anyone who wants to play along!!

Super 8

My love affair with The Wonder Years and its memorable opening credits only increases my affinity for super 8 style wedding videos. The grainy texture and imperfectly perfect coloring is a dreamy format for such a romantic day. Is there anything better than love captured on film?
