Knocked Up On NYE

We're back from a wonderful trip to Washington, D.C. where we celebrated Christmas with lots of family and fun.  James Robert is already missing his cousins and their company and I'm trying to wrap my head around the fact that NYE is, like, tomorrow.

My NYE plans are no make-up required.  But for fun,  I like to imagine how I'd style the bump if I had more posh plans.  The Boden dress is not maternity, but I LOVE their stuff and think you could get away with this one in a bigger size since it has the stretchy waist.

In reality, I'm looking forward to cooking something delicious (steak chinois or crab cakes are being debated) and then cozying up in something like this!  These PJ's were my absolute favorite from my first pregnancy.  I own them in multiple colors and a few sizes to fit the bump.  And the almonds are included as an absolute must-have NYE accessory for pregnant women everywhere.

Hope you have a wonderful time ringing in 2016, no matter what your plans!  Cheers!

Winter Warmers

Winter announced it's arrival;  we had our first snow fall this past weekend.  It wasn't much, but enough for us to get out and have a good play.   Also, enough to remind me what I need to get prepared for!
Winter warmers
After moving to Canada in the middle of winter last year, we've spend the better part of the last 6 months preparing ourselves for winter again. Now that we know how brutal it can be, my goal is to be equipped with the right gear to make it less painful.

I once heard the saying that there is no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothes.  So, for James Robert we have stocked up on essential snow gear and boots which will allow him to go out at school while the temperature drops. For myself, I find winter to be a challenge.  I am always cold.

Mec has the best snow suits and mittens for little ones; we love the sorel boots because they are easy to get on and off.
There are a few life-changing products that took the bite out of winter for me last year, namely, Smartwool socks and base layers (I literally wore them under everything every day last year).  These are a few of my favorite winter warmers; here's to making the most of the season!

Also, wishing you and yours the very Happiest of Thanksgivings and safe travels this week!

Toddler Boys Fall Clothes Roundup

I will always have a soft spot for smocked children's clothing.  It is just the cutest.  But now that James Robert is getting a bit older (2.5) I know I need to move on.  That and Canadians don't seem to understand the whole smocked/monogrammed clothing thing... I got some really funny comments last year when we arrived.

That being said, I still have a ball picking out little boys clothes!

This season:
-it's all about the neutrals for both myself and James Robert's clothes
-I'm drawn to a more simplified system of dressing.  Everything can mix and match allowing him the ability to help pick and dress himself.
-I'd like to add a few good quality items that allow layering into winter and add a timeless quality
-Shorts in substantial fabrics with knee socks and desert boots have to be one of the most adorable looks for boys

Pleated Pants are Not in my Future

I love Father of the Bride as much as the rest of us. OK, maybe more-- upon finding out I was pregnant I ordered the box set of part I and II and watched with teary eyes as Annie told her father she was having a baby.  Yup, my sweet husband had to live through that.

But I don't love the pleated-pant wearing, Eddie Bauer aesthetic they all have going on.

I had an ah-ha moment recently that if I want to have a chance at being a cute mom, I need to nail this cute maternity thing.  Enter inspiration.

Style File: Sasha Adler

Sasha Adler first captured my attention when she was featured in House Beautiful last year in the "I love my bed" feature.
I was happy to stumble across her recent feature in Lucky Magazine where she documented a weeks worth of outfits. As a co-design director for Nate Berkus, her style seems to transcend interiors. She is enviably stylish- I think you'll agree!?
So I collected some Sasha inspired pieces that I'd like to add to my closet. My favorite style tip that she shared? She shops the button-ups at crew cuts for the perfect fit!

I have been a long-time fan of Lauren Bush, a long-time fan of eco-fashion, a long-time fan of blue and white. This dress was made for me in heaven.

Working Girl

My weekday dressing just got a jolt of very chic inspiration thanks to Ahn and her stylish blog.
Classic elements are tweaked with accessories and unique layering to make them feel personal and styled but not trendy.
I especially love that Ahn cleverly remixes the elements in the closet in different ways- I'm so taking notes!
(her weekend wardrobe is perfection too!)
Working girl or not, 9to5 Chic is a fun peak into a San Francisco style-maker's closet.

Dream Work Wardrobe Part II

I'd like to channel this Carolina Herrera look for warmer weather work attire. I bet the jacquard skirt and raffia blouse are incredible in person.

Tod's Capri

While devoring the latest issue of Vogue on my flight last night, I melted into my seat when I came across the latest Tod's ad campaign. The colors, the styling, the women-- ah, to be Italian. I've blogged about Capri before and this video on Tod's site only makes a trip there more enviable. Hope your week is off to a good start!

Pack My Bags

Proving perfunctory items can be downright lust-worthy-- teaming up with Want Organic, J. Crew has done it again. Their sustainable laptop case makes me want to dress up my computer and take her traveling.

I'm smitten with Thread Social's new line; they are making trademark adorable duds from their excess fabric. Easier on your wallet (sorta) and the earth!

Designer Crush: Lara Miller + Giveaway Winner

On all accounts, Lara Miller's designs are a hit in my book. Case in point, her new Holiday 2010 collection makes want to fill my calendar with deck-the-halls festivities.
A girl after my own heart, Lara is Chicago based and eco-minded. Her clothing line is a inspired by the Windy City's aesthetic while also being made of sustainable materials. Lara designs with functionality in mind so many pieces are reversible and have multiple looks. Perfect for the girl who wants to get the most out of her wardrobe!

Also, random.org picked comment #15; the winner of the Linnea's Lights Giveaway is Laura Beranek!!! Congrats! I'll email you soon with details. Thanks for all the great feedback. Tomorrow I'll announce the Foundling Giveaway... stay tuned.

Furniture Inspired Wadrobe

A few weeks ago when I saw this guy over on Marianne's great blog, Haven and Home, I stopped dead in my tracks. I love it...love! If I could wear this piece of furniture, I would.

And since a plaid commode is not in my cards, I'm happy to discover there are number of ways to translate this look into my wardrobe.
