Style File: Mochila Bags

You probably fell in love with the Wayuu Taya bag in J Crew's spring catalogue like I did. But did you hear the background story on these beautiful bags?
They are handmade by women from Latin America making each one completely unique. All the proceeds from these bags go to education, health services, childcare and hygiene programs through the Wayuu Taya foundation. Look at some of the other beautiful designs...

Traditional mochila bags are making a big comeback. They have been seen around town...

Love that this fashionable lady is using hers for groceries

My interest was seriously peaked when I learned about the Mochila Project, organized by one of my fashion icons, Lauren Santo Domingo. The project showcased the work of notable designers and their take on the traditional bag.

This one from Oscar de la Renta is particularly stunning.

Or how about this one from Tory Burch?

I hate to jump on the train with the trend in full swing, but this is one statement that I think like to make even when it's moment in the spotlight is over. What about you?
